WordPress.com parent company Automattic today announced the acquisition of PollDaddy.com. PollDaddy is quite popular in its niche and many blogs use their service for adding polls to their blogs.
So what it means for you, for wordpress.com users Polldaddy is integrated to wordpress post editor. You can create polls from the post editor by clicking the polldaddy icon. First time it will ask you to create a new account which is automatic, or you can migrate your existing polldaddy account. From here creating a poll is easy, it will show design templates, and other options for creating a poll. Once you created the poll you can send it to editor, you can preview it. When you send the poll to editor it will just create a poll instance code (Ex: ), but there is no way to see the actual code so that you can paste the code in the blog sidebar or somewhere in the template.
For wordpress.org users (self hosted blogs, like this blog) there is a free plugin available from polldaddy. But for this plugin you need to have a polldaddy account. I think in the future they will integrate it in to wordpress editor like for wordpress.com users.
Automattic is in a acquisition spree, recently they acquired IntenseDebate and last year they acquired Gravatar, this is good for the bloggers who use wordpress as their blogging platform.

Hmmm…was surprised that WordPress actually paid for the product, but it is definitely cool, and I’ll probably use it in the future.
