Nokia admitted the data connectivity issue that some Nokia Lumia 900 owners are facing is due to a software glitch, and offers a software update to fix the issue. Nokia is also offering $100 credit for all Lumia 900 AT&T customers making the device free for users. Nokia Lumia 900 retails at $99.
Yesterday we reported that some Lumia 900 owners are facing data connectivity issues, the issue could be that IMEI numbers are not registered with AT&T data network properly. Nokia said the issue is related to memory-management in the phone’s software and not related to a hardware issue or AT&Ts network issue.
Nokia will offer a software update to fix the issue, the software update will hit the devices on April 16th. Alternatively users can swap their devices at AT&T store for an updated one. Nokia is already manufacturing devices with the new software, those units are being shipped to AT&T stores, Nokia US Chief Chris Weber told AllthingsD.
Nokia is offering a $100 credit to all customers, whether they are hit by the issue or not. The offer is valid till April 21st, that means Lumia is offered for free with a two year contract if you buy one before April 21st. White Lumia 900 is expected on April 22nd.
Nokis Lumia 900 is the flagship device of Nokia and Microsoft also had high hopes for the device, as it will show the strength of the Windows Phone platform to the consumers. It is not surprising that Nokia offered a fix for the device with $100 credit for all customers. But Nokia deserves credit for admitting and offering fix as early as possible.
