Facebook has introduced an App Center for finding social apps. Facebook App Center will list web as well as mobile apps for Android and iOS, and also HTML5 apps. With this move Facebook wants to be the destination for social apps for its 900million users.
Facebook says that developers who are interested to take part in the App Center prepare for the app center, developers has to fill an app detail page about their application. These app detail pages will serve people in discovering the social apps. Here are the guidelines for developers about creating detail pages. The app center already has these apps Draw Something, Pinterest, Spotify, Battle Pirates, Viddy, and Bubble Witch Saga.
Facebook app center will give greater visibility for quality apps, high quality determines the success in the app store and not popularity. Signals like user ratings will be used for listing the apps. Facebook also introduced a new app ratings metric in Facebook Insights for reporting user ratings of the apps over time.
Facebook app center will work as a profile wrapper for downloadable mobile apps, apps that require downloads will be redirected to the Google Play Store or iTunes App Store, users can download the apps from there. The main requirement for mobile to be listed in the app center is that they should use Facebook login as an option. This is a clever move as it allows Facebook to collect more user data for better understanding the social interests of users.
Paid Apps
Facebook app center will also include paid apps, developers can use this feature to collect a flat fee from users for using the app in Facebook.com. Developers can also use the existing in-app purchase model. Developers interested in the beta program can sign-up to receive more information.
