If you are a Nokia Lumia user, here is a good news for you. Nokia is rolling out software updates for Lumia 800 and Lumia 710. These phones are currently on Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, the new update will bring them to Windows Phone Tango, that includes some new features.
This update to Tango will bring some new features and allows users to download new apps like Camera Extras. One useful function that comes with this update to Tango is Wi-Fi tethering. Wi-Fi tethering allows you to share your mobile data connection with other devices like laptop or tablet via Wi-Fi hotspot. Another feature that comes with this update is flip-to-silence, as the name suggests you can flip the phone to silence all incoming calls and alerts.
Camera Extras app can be downloaded after updating your phone to Windows Phone Tango. According to Nokia Conversations blog, this app this includes range of new shot options. Smart Group Shot option makes it easy to take a group shot, five shots are taken with a single click of the camera button, users can select the best shot. Action Shot allows you to take several shots of action or movement, for example sports events and select the best shot.
If you have Lumia 900 or Lumia 610 both Wi-Fi tethering and flip-to-silence are already available and you can soon download new apps Camera Extras and Contact Share. Contact Share app allows you to receive Business Cards by SMS.
The software update will rollout in June and July. New apps can be downloaded by the end of July after updating your Lumia to Windows Phone Tango. To get the update connect your phone to your PC with USB cable and fire up Zune software. The updates are region dependent, so check out if your Lumia has an update or not.
As a reminder Microsoft made it clear that all current Windows Phones including Nokia Lumia range will not get the Windows Phone 8 “Apollo”, instead they will get the Windows Phone 7.8. WP 7.8 includes UI changes and not any major updates. This change is because of the Windows Phone 7 & 8 architecture. Windows Phone 8 is based on Windows 8 OS and uses Windows NT Kernel. That means Windows Phone 7.8 is the last update current Windows Phone users will get.
