Karbonn has released a new phablet to the market, Karbonn Smart A111 which is competing with the Micromax Canvas II A110. Karbonn Smart A111 and Micromax Canvas II A110 share similar specifications and not surprisingly both are at similar price point, this shows that Karbonn is directly targeting the Micromax A110.
Both these phones have similar specifications and price points, so let us see how they compare with each other.
Display: Both these devices have 5-inch capacitive multi-touch screens. Micromax Canvas II A110 uses IPS display, 5-point multi touch and with AGC Sodaline Screen protection. It has a resolution of 854 X 480 (FWVGA) pixels. Karbonn A111 display is not yet known and also the resolution of the screen, but it is expected to have the similar resolution like Canvas II or slightly higher but don’t expect it to be in qHD resoltuion (960 x 540).
Camera: Micromax Canvas II A110 offers an 8-megapixel rear camera as well as a 0.3-megapixel front camera for video calling. Karbonn Smart A111 also offers dual cameras but the rear camera is just 5-megapixel and the front camera is not known, probably 0.3MP camera. In terms of the Camera specs Micromax has an advantage with 8MP rear camera, but unless we test both the cameras we will not know which one performs better. A110 has a dual LED flash and the Karbonn smart A111 has a single LED flash. Overall Micromax device should perform better in the camera front looking at the specifications.
Memory: Internal memory of Canvas II is 2GB while that of the Karbonn Smart A111 is 4GB, all the 4GB in Smart may not be available to the user. Both the phones support microSD card to expand the memory to 32GB. Both these phone have 512 MB RAM.
Performance: Canvas II comes with 1GHz dual-core processor and when you look at the device reviews it’s performance is decent. A111 comes with 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Scropion processor. While the processor clock rate is higher in Karbonn smart device they both have the same amount of RAM that is 512MB, so you may not see a great improvement in terms of performance in Smart A111. 512MB of RAM is decent for casual gaming but for more intense gaming you might need more juice from your phone. Both are dual-SIM phones supports GSM+GSM networks.
Battery: Both these devices carry similar spec batteries, Micromax A110 has a 200mAh battery and the Karbonn A111 has 2100mAH battery.
Misc: Both these phones are running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Connectivity options are also similar with minor variations, microUSB, GPS, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Conclusion: Micromax Canvas II A110 is retailing at Rs. 10,000, but right now it is not available in the market, probably due to the unexpected demand or other reason. Karbonn Smart A111 is available online at Rs. 10,290 that is couple of hundreds more than Canvas II. If you are planning for a 5-inch budget phablet both these devices fit your bill.
