Microsoft took Outlook.com, the free web mail service out of it’s preview mode today. Microsoft first launched Outlook.com preview in last July that will eventually replace Hotmail as a free email service. Along with the announcement Microsoft says that it is starting a large-scale marketing campaign to promote Outlook.com around the world.
When Microsoft launched Outlook.com many praised it’s clean and clutter free interface including me. The design got it’s inspiration from Windows 8 Metro. Microsoft boasts that Outlook.com is the fastest growing email service with 0 to 60 million users in just six months. Now with out of preview mode and ready for the prime time it is available everywhere and users who haven’t tried can go to Outlook.com to create an account.
Outlook.com was designed as an email service focused on removing barriers and getting people going:
- Delivering a beautiful, fresh and intuitive experience on modern browsers and devices
- Keeping people connected to their friends and co-workers across the networks they really use
- Providing a smart and powerful inbox to handle today’s email needs, including SkyDrive for sharing virtually anything in a single email
- Putting people in control by prioritizing their privacy
Microsoft will also upgrade all Hotmail users to the new Outlook.com site but users can keep their Hotmail addresses. Everything from the old Hotmail account will including email address, password, messages, folders will stay the same. Microsoft hopes to upgrade all Hotmail users to Outlook.com by this summer. Users who want to migrate immediately can sign-in to Outlook.com any time, they will be upgraded automatically.
