Mozilla has showed it’s Firefox OS at the MWC 2013, and also announced hardware partners and also carriers who are supporting the new mobile operating system. Mozilla announced Alcatel, LG, Huawei and ZTE are releasing handsets with Firefox OS, but now news came that Sony is also jumping on to the Firefox OS bandwagon.
Sony so far only concentrated on Android and mostly released Android based smartphones under the brand name Xperia. Some time back Sony also announced that it is quitting the low end feature phones market altogether to focus on high end devices. Sony so far has not been to succeed with Android like Samsung, it is lagging behind.
Sony is partnering with Telefonica to explore the development of a handset running Firefox OS. Telefonica is one of the carrier partner for Mozilla, for releasing Firefox OS devices in Brazil. Remember the first wave of Firefox smartphones will hit Brazil along with Colombia, Hungary, Mexico, Montenegro, Poland, Serbia, Spain and Venezuela.
Sony is the fifth hardware vendor to support Firefox OS, ZTE and Alcatel already launched devices at MWC 2013, namely Open and One Touch Idol X, the other two LG and Huawei are expected to launch devices later this year.
