As expected Sony officially launched it’s 2013 flagship smartphone Sony Xperia Z in India. It is priced at Rs. 38999, and will be available in all the retail stores, Sony Centers from March 12th onwards. Xperia Z not only has great specifications under its hood, but it is also a water and dust resistant phone.
With the launch of Xperia Z Sony is aiming for top three smartphone status for Xperia Z, in this regard Sony also increased marketing budget and retails stores number in the country.
The launch of Sony Xperia Z today [Wednesday], is the start of our journey to triple the Xperia sales in India to Rs.3,500 crore in FY 13. The company has taken several steps towards this direction, including tripling the Xperia marketing budget to Rs.300 crore for FY13, more than doubling the sales channel counters to 8,000, and increasing the service touch points to 300 by FY13,” said Kenichiro Hibi, Managing Director, Sony India.
“India is a high focus and high growth market for Sony. The smartphone market in India holds very strong mid-term growth potential, with smartphone sales projected to be approximately 33 million units by 2013 in India. Our ultimate objective is to position Xperia among the top 3 smartphone brands in India,” Corporate Vice president, Sony Mobile Communications, Dennis Van Schie, said at the launch.

Xperia Z is available from online retailers including Infibeam, Saholic and others for INR 38,999, deliveries of this flagship Android smartphone will start from March 12th 2013.
