Airtel is planning to launch 4G LTE services in Delhi in September according to several reports. Airtel has reportedly roped in Chinese firm Huawei which makes telecom equipment for the deployment of 4G services in Delhi. Delhi is one of the biggest markets for telecom and Airtel is looking to expand its high speed internet services footprint across the country. Airtel already launched 4G services in Kolkata, Bangalore, Kolkata, Pune and Chandigarh.
Airtel had won Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) spectrum in four circles including Kolkata, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Punjab in 2010. It also acquired stake in Qualcomm’s spectrum for BWA, through that deal Airtel has access to Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala circles.
Airtel is planning to launch 4G services in other circles after rolling out services in Delhi, the next phase of rollout includes Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala. Airtel partnered with Huawei in 2012 to plan, design, supply and deploy 4G network in Karnataka.
Reliance Jio Infocomm is also expected to launch a pan India network, it acquired BWA spectrum earlier.
