Asus announced Chromebox desktop PC targeted at home internet users. The Chromebox like the previous Chromebooks will run on Chrome OS. It is not the first Chromebox Samsung has previously announced a Chromebox but that didn’t take off as expected. Asus Chromebox is powered by Intel Haswell based Celeron processor.
The Asus Chromebox will retail for $179, that is quite cheap, if you are mostly online and do thing on browser all the time, there is no need for a full PC, this kind of Chromebox will suffice. Since it is a desktop PC you can have it as a spare PC at home as well.
With Asus Chromebox you will get 2GB or 4GB of DDR3 TAM, integrated Intel HD graphics, 16GB SSD local storage. To sweeten the deal Google is throwing a 100GB of Google Drive storage for two years along with the Asus Chromebox, this itself is worth around $120. it comes with Wi-Fi and Ethernet for internet connectivity, it has a media card reader, four USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and Display port as well. It supports dual monitors through HDMI and Display port, it will also support 4K monitors through the display port.
The Asus Chromebox is a small square box, it comes with out a fan for quiet operation. Users can download apps from Chrome web store, it also supports multiple users with Google accounts. The pricing starts at $179 for the Chromebox and will be available from March onwards. There are two versions one is powered by a Intel Celeron 2955U which sells for $179 and another powered by a Intel Core i3 processor, the price of this box is not yet known.
