As expected Asus launched the Fonepad tablet in India, it it priced at Rs. 15,999. Fonepad was first unveiled at MWC 2013, the name comes from the fact that it can be used as phone since it has voice calling support. It is a 7-inch tablet with 3G voice calling support it will compete with Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and offerings from low cost Indian manufacturers.
Specs wise it has a 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2420 Processor coupled with PowerVR SGX540 GPU, this is the first tablet from Asus with the Intel Atom chip inside. It has a 7-inch Backlight LED IPS screen at 1280 x 800 pixels resolution. It runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. It supports 3G with voice calling capability, other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS etc. When it comes to storage it is available as 8GB/ 16GB model and sports a micro SD slot for expanding the memory. You will also get 5GB of lifetime free storage from Asus cloud. It comes with a 3MP rear camera that can record 720p video and a front camera for 3G video calling.
Fonepad joins the Asus Nexus 7 and Asus MemoPad tablets in India. It will be available from stores across India from 30th April onwards.
