BlackBerry India launched an affordable mid range BB10 Q5 smartphone in India, it is priced at Rs. 24,990. This is the third smartphone from BB after the launch of Z10 and Q10. Both of these earlier phones were perceived as expensive by users, BB recently introduced cash back offer to improve sales of Z10.
The Q5 resembles its brother Q10 in design and packs downgraded specs as it is aiming for the mid-range segment. It runs on a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor with 2GB RAM and 8GB internal storage. It features a 3.1inch IPS LCD display with 720 x 720 pixels resolution at 329ppi.
On the imaging front it comes with a 5MP rear camera with 4-element lens, flash, continuous touch to focus, image stabilization and a 2MP front camera. It packs a 2180mAh battery under the hood that will give 12.5hrs of talk time (3G) and upto 14 days of standby time (3G).
Z10 and 10 pricing is a disaster and they didn’t help to improve the sales of BB in India and again Q5 is priced similarly. I doubt at this price it will move from the shelves. At Rs. 25,000 you have better Android phones, for 1K more you will get Nexus 4 with better specifications than Q5.
