Micromax has released Canvas 4 smartphone officially, this is one of the phone that created lot of excitement and hype before the launch in recent times. The smartphone is earlier rumored to have specs similar to Galaxy S4, but when it launched it came with slightly better specifications that its predecessor Canvas HD A116 launched earlier this year. The Canvas 4 A210 is now available in the market with a price tag of Rs. 17,999 and the Canvas HD is now selling at around Rs. 13,299. Since both these phones are from the same manufacturer and slightly differ in specs let us see what are the differences between Canvas HD and Canvas 4 in terms of features and specifications.
Display: Both these phones come with 5-inch IPS LCD display and both have the same HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels). So both have the same screen literally but what the Canvas 4 screen is scratch resistant with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Other than that they are no big differences or surprises in the display department.
Camera: Canvas HD has an 8-megapixel camera at the rear while the Canvas 4 is carrying a 13-megapixel camera at the rear. The front camera on Canvas HD is a VGA camera and Canvas 4 has the 5-megapixel shooter at the front. The major difference between these phones is in the Camera department. The Canvas 4 comes with not only improved camera features but also with bigger sensor, the lens features five element lens that should translate to better pictures than the Canvas HD one. Also the camera on Canvas 4 has some nice features like multiple face detection, (99) continuous burst mode, HDR, and vertical Panorama support.
Memory: Both Canvas HD and Canvas 4 features 1GB RAM, everyone expected at least 2GB RAM on the Canvas 4 but that is not the case when it launched. On the internal storage Canvas 4 is much better, it packs 16GB of internal storage, this is important as todays mobile games are bloated with 100MBs in size. Canvas HD has 4GB of storage. On the storage front Canvas 4 is much better than its predecessor.
Performance: Both these phones packs the same processor under the hood, the 1.2GHz Quad Core MediaTek MT6589 processor powers both the devices. Since both have the same processor you may not notice any difference in terms of performance. But Canvas 4 is bloated with some useful and some not-so-useful features that may strain the processor when using certain apps.
Battery: Again both these devices come with same battery pegged at 2000mAh. Micromax says the battery is optimized in Canvas 4 and improved performance. But we don’t know if that is the case. So we are expecting the same level of battery performance from both.
Software: On the software front both these phones are now running on Android 4.2 jelly Bean operating system. Canvas 4 has some unique features. The much hyped feature is the “blow to unlock”, which allows you to unlock the screen by just blowing on to it. How useful is this feature is up for rebate, but if you like this kind of feature, then canvas 4 is your best bet. Other useful features in Canvas 4 that are not available in Canvas HD are gesture controls for calls, wherein flipping the phone will silent or switch on loudspeaker. Another feature is the ability to pin videos to the home screen called video pinning.
Conclusion: Micromax Canvas 4 specifications are similar to the Micromax Canvas HD, the big difference is in the Camera department, if you are the type who takes a lot of pictures with your smartphone Canvas 4 serves you better. The screen on Canvas 4 has Corning Gorilla Glass protection which offers protection against scratches. Other differences in these phones are, gesture controls in canvas and little nifty features like Video pinning in Canvas 4. As we said earlier Canvas 4 is now available for Rs. 17,999 and Canvas HD for Rs. 13,300. So for the higher rice you pay for Canvas 4 you will get some software tweaks and a better camera.
