Nokia has announced another Lumia in its range of Windows phone devices, dubbed Nokia Lumia 625. Nokia Lumia 620 is one of the affordable smartphones available on Windows Phone 8 platform. In India Lumia 520 and Lumia 620 are the main driving force for Nokia in terms of sales.
Nokia has just released another handset which has similar specs like Lumia 620 but with enough differences so that both can co-exist for some time. Let us find out what is new in Lumia 625 or simply put what are the differences between Lumia 620 and Lumia 625. Is the Lumia 625 an upgrade over 620 or both are different.?
Display: The biggest difference between these phones is the display. The Lumia 625 comes with 4.7-inch display with IPS LCD touch screen, on the other hand Lumia 620 has a 3.8-inch IPS LCD screen. The bigger size of the phone doesn’t translate to a better screen as the resolution of both devices display is same at 480 x 800 pixels. That means although you get a bigger display in Lumia 625, the overall pixel density is reduced to 198ppi compared to the 246ppi in 620. 625 also gets Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection on top.
Design: There are substantial differences in the build as well. The Lumia 625 is a bigger device than 620 with large display, but it is also thinner than the chunky 620. Lumia 625 is just 9.2mm thick, while the Lumia 620 is 11mm in thickness, the 625 is heavier than its predecessor, at 159gms it is 32gms heavier than the 620 which is at 127gms.
Performance: Lumia 625 comes with 1.2GHz Dual-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with Adreno 305 GPU, which is a little jump over the Lumia 620 as it is powered by a 1GHz Dual-Core Snapdragon with Adreno 305 GPU. The 1.2GHz MSM 8930 in Lumia 625 supports qHD display, 1080p video and LTE support, the 1GHz MSM8227 in Lumia 620 supports FWVGA resolution, and 720p video. The RAM in two devices is pegged at 512MB RAM, so don’t expect any drastic performance differences between the two.
Battery: Lumia 625 gets the 2000mAh battery which is a nice jump over the 1300mAh battery in the Lumia 620. But 625 battery is not removable while in 620 it is removable one. Battery wise 625 is better as it offers more talk time, but one caveat is that it is not removable.
Misc: Both devices have the same camera, but Lumia 625 supports 1080p video, and Lumia 620 supports 720p. Both the phones are upgradeable to the Windows Phone Amber update expected soon.
Conclusion: Although Lumia 625 looks like a nice upgrade from the Lumia 620 it is not. Both of these devices have enough differences so pick the one that suits best for you. In India Lumia 620 is selling for Rs. 12999 currently, expect the Lumia 625 to be priced higher than that. With Lumia 625 you will get large display with less PPI, 1080p video, LTE.
