Android allows customization of devices to a great extent. Android OEMs have their own launchers and skins on top of pur Android builds, most of the time these launchers suck big time. If you are the one you likes customization to a great extent, then you should know there are other kind of apps that will modify your lock screen based on context, based on where you are at Home, or at Work.
Few days back we have seen Aviate launcher for Android which modifies the home screen based on the time of the day. Now a new app called “Cover” for Android came up, it is available as a invite only for now. Cover replaces your lock screen to show apps based on the context, it will pull up apps based on your location, whether you are at Home, or Driving or at Work.
It will pull up apps based on time and place and shows apps that you use most during that time. For example when you are at work it might pull up Gmail, Calendar, Drive etc. While Driving it will pull up navigation apps. Turn the phone to landscape mode you will see the camera button. Plugin the earphones you will see entertainment apps. All is based on context, that is pretty good in our opinion.
Peek into an app quickly by just swiping to the left. It is a great way to get to your favorite apps to check updates quickly. Hold an icon and swipe to see the app behind the lock screen. Swiping from top right will bring up the app list and you can directly jump to the other app quickly.
The smart settings allow you to set different wallpapers for each context along with ringer tones. It supports Home, Work, Car, and Out.
Cover is invite only at the moment, you can your email at the Cover Site for access to the app. Cover will be available from Google Play Store for free for now. Like the many good apps they haven’t figured out a monetization plan yet.
