Microsoft has finally released the much awaited update for Windows 8 operating system in he form of Windows 8.1. The update simply called Windows 8.1 is in the works for some time, the Windows 8.1 preview was released earlier in June. This update is free for all existing Windows 8 users, if you are using Windows 8 now you can go to Windows Store app from Metro interface to start the update process.
The Windows 8.1 brings much awaited and most requested features since the release of Windows 8, for example Start button and Boot to Desktop. The list of new features is long and includes some very useful features like the search everywhere.
What’s New
Most awaited feature since the release of Windows 8 is the Start Button, it is now available with this update. Unlike the traditional Windows Start Button this brings a different app screen. But it is one feature that will please many users that are frustrated with the Windows 8’s lack of start button. Start Screen is now more customizable with new tile sizes, new background designs and colors.
Another important feature is the Boot to Desktop, now users can enable to boot to desktop directly, till now the system boots to Metro start screen and from there you have to go to the desktop.
Multi-tasking is also improved in this version, now you can use 4 apps in Snap View side by side. The apps can be arranged with various windows sizing. Multi-monitor support has also been improved in Windows 8.1.
Search everywhere: With Bing smart search you can search and get the results from everything. The search now searches local files, apps, cloud files and also brings bing web search.
Apps and Services also received update, Microsoft has updated a long list f apps to support Windows 8.1. It also brings two new Bing apps Food & Drink and Health & Fitness. Windows 8.1 comes with Internet Explorer 11 which now allows unlimited tabs and syncs across all your devices.
SkyDrive is now deeply integrated to Windows 8.1, your files are always accessible across your devices and synced always.
