Hashtags, a feature that became popular with twitter is finally coming to Facebook. Hashtags are supported by several sites, the origin of Hashtags is from IRC channels but with twitter they became popular as a way to organize posts. All this time Facebook has not supported this feature although several sites are supporting this popular tagging feature. Facebook announced starting today hashtags will be clickable on Facebook.
The hashtags in Facebook function like any other network like Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest etc. Users can click on them to see the discussion happening on the Facebook platform. Clicking on a hashtag will open a feed of what others are saying using that hashtag.
Unlike Twitter you can control who can see your hashtag topics on Facebook. You will also be able to click on hashtags that originate on other networks according to Facebook. That is not all but in the near future more features will come including trending topics like Twitter.
