Transferring large files over Bluetooth is a pain and takes time, transferring files over Wi-Fi is much faster using Wi-Fi Direct feature. But unfortunately all Android devices have the Wi-Fi Direct feature except new devices that are coming to the market, like Galaxy, Xperia or Nexus Devices.
An alternative to Wi-Fi Direct on Android devices is Fast File Transfer app, that does exactly what is says. It offers fast file transfers upto 20 times faster than the Bluetooth transfers. That is 32MB/ Sec data transfer or 1GB under 5 minutes. Fast File Transfer app works on Android devices that have Wi-F- hotspot feature enabled and it is available for Android versions 2.3 and up. Wi-Fi hotspot feature dependent means it won’t work on some HTC Evo devices, Galaxy Y devices and Nexus 7.
Using this app is easy, after installing, go to the file manager and hold on the file you want to share with others, now select Share from the list and select Fast File Transfer as the method. The app will enable Wi-Fi hotspot and ready to share the file. On the other device where you want to receive the file enable Wi-Fi and select Fast File Transfer and connect. The app shows a QR code or web address using which the file can be downloaded on the other device.
One useful and interesting feature of this app is that it works with iOS devices also. Transferring files through Bluetooth from Android to iOS is not possible due to Apple’s restrictions, but this app works well and is fast.
Fast File Transfer is a free applications and works well as advertised, download the applications and install if you want to transfer large files like movies any other file really fast.
