Feedly, the alternative we suggested and use in place of Google Reader got a major update, the latest update includes a standalone app for Feedly at cloud.feedly.com. Feedly earlier used Google Reader backend and when Google announced its death is imminent, Feedly began developing its own backend platform and they succeeded in setting up the infrastructure to power their own backend in a few months time.
One it is available as a browser extension on Firefox, Chrome and popular as mobile app is now available as a standalone app. It is also offering an API for developers who want to build apps based on Feedly. It already announced 9 apps so far that makes use of its API, the list of apps include Sprout Social, gReader (Android app) among them.
Feedly has gained millions of users since the news of Google Reader demise came, according to Feedly they have 12 million users now on the platform compared to 4 million users earlier. MultiPlx is another alternative to look, and Digg announced this week that its beta will be ready by June 26th.
