Firefox OS developer phones Keon and Peak went on sale today at Geeksphone, a Spanish retailer. Both the phones were out of stock as of this writing and no longer available for orders, this shows developer enthusiasm to the evolving Firefox OS.
Keon and Peak are meant for developers who are building apps for Firefox OS and they are for the consumers as the Firefox OS is not fully baked. Consumer version of Firefox based phones are expected in June in 5 countries including Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Poland and Venezuela.and later in other countries.
Keon is the lower end variant and it sold out quickly on Geeksphone site. It is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Cortex A5 processor and 512 MB of RAM. It comes with 3.5 multi touch screen, tri-band UMTS/HSPA radio, 3MP rear camera, GPS, 4GB of storage and a 1580mAh battery to power up the device. Keon is priced at €110.
Peak has better specs that the Keon phone, it comes with 1.2GHz Dual-Core Qualcomm 8225 processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. Other specifications include 4.3-inch multi-touch qHD IPS display, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, GPS, 3G. It comes with 1800mAh battery and is priced at €179.
According to reports both these phones will be available later from Geeksphone.com, keep an eye on the site currently closed for maintenance if you want to get hold of the Firefox OS phones.
Mozilla has previewed Firefox OS at MWC 2013, it is hoping to launch budget phones with Firefox in developing markets. Alcatel and ZTE already showcased their phones at MWC, LG, Huawei and Sony are expected to launch FF OS based phones in the near future.
