Samsung is already prepping for its next version of Galaxy S smartphone the Galaxy S5. Rumor is that the mass production of Galaxy S5 might start in January and the phone itself might be released in February or March according to report of ETNews, a Korean news site. The report notes that this timing of Galaxy S5 launch is ahead of the usual schedule Samsung follows, Samsung usually releases its Galaxy S phones in May, the three months advance time may be related to the fact that Galaxy S4 is not selling well after all.
The report spills some specifications but take these with a grain of slat as we are very far from the smartphone launch, the specifications might change at any time. According to the report Galaxy S5 comes in two variants one premium version and one mass market version. The premium version will come with a metal case and a curved OLED display, something similar to Galaxy Round probably. And the mass market model will come with Samsung’s signature plastic body and Super AMOLED display.
Rest of the hardware between these two variants is same. They come with 5-inch screen, and run on Android 4.4 KitKat with whatever version of TouchWiz Samsung wants to overlay. Other specifications mentioned in the report includes a 16MP camera at the rear, and a large battery to provide juice to the phone. The battery is touted at 4000mAh. It will also include 3GB RAM.
Samsung is not yet done finalizing the Processor so far, it is looking at ARM Cortex 64-bit architecture processors to compete with the iPhone 5S. Samsung might go for different processors for different markets the same way it went ahead with the Galaxy S4.
Samsung will also launch Galaxy Gear 2 Smartwatch which is 15-20% thinner than the current version along side the Galaxy S5. Samsung will also launch more accessories for the phone to offset the slowing sales of the mobile phones according to the report.
