Google has announced the availability Google Earth 7 for iOS that brings 3D imagery to iOS devices including new iPad, iPad2 and iPhone 4s. Using Google Earth for iOS users can fly through the supported cities in 3D.
The list of 3D cities include Boulder, Boston, Charlotte, Lawrence, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Portland, San Diego, Santa Cruz, Tampa, Tucson, and the San Francisco Bay Area (including the Peninsula and East Bay) as well as Rome, Italy. Google also promises to add more cities to the 3D list and by the end of the year new locations will be added covering a combined population of 300 million people.
“Tour Guide” is a new feature included in this release that shows interesting places to explore for users. The update also include short tours of historical and famous places. This feature is available to all iOS devices running 4.2 or higher.
Apple will be ditching Google Maps in favor of their own maps with the release of iOS 6. iOS 6 Maps supposed to include 3D maps as well, so it is interesting to see how these two products will compete with each other in the near future.
For now Google 3D imagery is available for iPad2, new iPad and iPhone 4S. Download Google Earth for iOS from appstore.
