Google Maps, one of the most popular application on the Android platform received an update and that brings some new features. The update Google Maps 6.5 for Android brings a redesigned UI for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phones.
This update brings crisper and faster map tiles for high pixel density devices like Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S II and Droid Razr. Google says these devices will get high resolution map tiles taking advantage of the pixel per inch on these screens. You will see these changes if you navigate to new areas on the map, to get on the previously navigated areas you need to clear the cache. You can compare the result on the below image.
The update also brings public transit options, now you can choose the mode of public transport (bus or subway) and route options. Google can recommend you the route with few transfers or the one with less walking involved. Transit directions and schedules are available for 475 cities around the world.
You can download the Google Maps 6.5 for Android from Google Play.
