HTC has finally took the wraps off its ext flagship smartphone HTC One (M8) in New York today. HTC One (M8) leaks appeared from quite some time, it is one of the most leaked handsets in recent times, and the wait is finally over with the official launch. Interestingly the new HTC One can be bought in North America starting today.
HTC One M8 is the successor to the last year’s flagship HTC One, it retains most of the design and features and comes with upgraded specifications and improvements. It is tucked in the same unibody design with edge to edge screen. It comes in the same Aluminum shell as its predecessor but HTC used more metal his time 90 percent is metal body. The three capacitive hardware buttons on the front have been replaced with the Android on-screen buttons.
Specifications: This phone is slightly bigger than the last year version, it now comes with a 5-inch screen, last year’s was at 4.7-inch, though it retains the 1080p display with Super LCD3 screen, on top there is a Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Under the hood powering this device is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor 801 clocked at 2.3GHz along with 2GB of RAM. It will be available in 16GB or 32GB internal storage model, if you feel that is not enough for you, HTC has included a micro SD card to support upto 128GB. Google is also giving 50GB of storage on Google Drive as part of a promotion for two years.
New HTC One M8 retains the 4MP UltraPixel camera in the original HTC One, but with some major improvements. There is also a new imaging processor attached, HTC calls it Duo camera, it is used for capturing depth information. The dual front speakers with BoomSound are also retained but they are now deeply seated and come with built-in amplifiers.
The device gets a 2600mAh battery under the hood, which is slight jump from the last years version which is at 2300mAh. The battery will give 20 hours of talk time or on battery saving mode it lasts upto 40 days standby. Connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, NFC, LTC etc.
Software: HTC is shipping HTC Sense 6.0 along with he new HTC One, the Sense 6.0 includes new BlinkFeed. The UI has been redesigned to give a modern look. HTC is also releasing some of is core features as apps in Google Play store for easier future updates. The device runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the latest version of the Android on the market today.
Availability: HTC One (M8) is available in US starting today according to HTC, pricing of the device is not revealed. It will be available in three color, gunmetal gray, glacier silver and amber gold.
It will compete with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S5, iPhone 5s successor, Sony Xperia Z2 and countless other Android flagship models launched or expected in the next few moths.
