Instagram will start monetizing the service, till now it is devoid any advertising. This is in the planning stage for sometime as previous reports suggested that Instagram will start serving advertising. Starting with US users Instagram will show In-Feed Video and Image ads from brands you are not following. This is expected and is a matter of time before all of us will see the ads.
Instagram blog post reveals that US users will start to see these ads in their stream in the next couple of months, the ads at this point will be from the brands you don’t follow. The ads will be in the form of beautiful photos and videos according to the blog post, but how beautiful they are will be decided by users ultimately.
Users won’t be able to turn ads from their stream but if they don’t like an ad they can hide it and report to Instagram what is wrong with the ad. As usual users are not happy with the change and are voicing their displeasure with the move. But this move is expected and required for the long term survival of the company. Since the acquisition Facebook has not spoiled the service but don’t expect it to keep long with out generating any revenue.
