After Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich, Google came out with the Jelly Bean 4.1 update for the Android OS. Some time after the 4.1 release of Google’s Jelly Bean, it came out with the 4.2 update, which is the latest Android firmware. However, like always, most Android users are left disappointed as most smartphones and tablets have not been updated and some users haven’t even received the 4.1 update.
However, developers have released all the 4.2 additions and apps for all Android devices and you can get these in order to get a taste of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Before installing any of these apps, make sure that you create a Nandroid backup first.
The latest Gmail app from Jelly Bean 4.2 can be downloaded using this link. You can install the zip file using CWM recovery. It is similar to the previous Gmail app, however, it features the highly anticipated pinch to zoom feature. You can get the latest Google Play Music from 4.3 JB using this link. Once downloaded, you need to flash the zip file through CWM recovery.
The latest Google Desktop Clock can be downloaded and flashed using this link. If you face any force closes, then you need to go to the system/app folder and need to delete DeskClock.apk. The latest Google Play Store is also available with some minor changes and theming. You can get the apk file here. Once downloaded, you can install the apk file like a normal app.
The Android 4.2 camera has some major improvements and features than the previous version. It features several new additions including panorama, photosphere, advanced photo editing and sphereview for images. The photo gallery might FC while rendering sphere images. You can fix this by changing the default language of the phone to “English (United States)”. The flashable zip file for the camera is available here. Finally, you can download the anticipated 4.2 keyboard here. You can flash the zip file using CWM recovery.
These apps should work on most, if not all, Android devices with ICS 4.0+. These have not been modified in any way so there might be small bugs, however, these have been tested on several Android firmwares and all the apps seem to work fine with the fixes mentioned above. You can get the latest nexus 4 wallpapers here.
