LG introduced the LTE TDD equipped variant of the Optimus G in Saudi Arabia, LG said starting today with Saudi they will launch Optimus and other smartphones China, India, North America, Japan and Australia and rollout in other countries will follow soon.
“LTE TDD is a superior alternative in some countries due to its flexibility in uploading and downloading content,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We’re excited to offer consumers LTE TDD capable smartphones based on our unparalleled knowhow in 4G LTE technologies. With the commercial introduction of LTE TDD service, LG will build upon its expertise in 4G LTE by offering future device options utilizing this standard.”
LTE TDD allows receiving and transmitting data on the same frequency unlike LTE FDD which assigns two frequencies to receive and transmit data. Also Known TD-LTE, LTE TDD assigns narrow band for uploading data and wider band for downloading heavier content like video and audio, it functions similar to the Home broadband.
In India LTE penetrations is very low, except few cities LTE network is not available widely in the country. But whatever LTE network we have is LTE TDD, so LG might want to take advantage of this fact by launching devices equipped with this technology.
