Micromax is on a roll with Android devices, they are expanding fast and launching devices every now and then. They have successfully created a Canvas Brand and are launching devices that cater to a wide range of customers. Micromax is now aiming for international markets and entering new segments, it recently announced Hugh Jackman as brand ambassador.
Micromax’s Rahul Sharma speaking to Economic Times said that Micromax will launch 4G enabled smartphone by the end of this year, that is in December and they are also planning for Windows Phone some time next year. Specking to ET he said they want to establish themselves on LTE and offer 4G LTE enabled handsets by December, so that consumers won’t have to upgrade their devices when 4G penetration increases in India.
Micromax is not the only Indian company launching 4G LTE handsets here, Xolo is also launching LT900 4G LTE smartphone in November first week. 4G network coverage is very poor in India, Airtel launched 4G services in few cities. Reliance Jio will launch pan India services sometime later.
Sharma also said that Micromax might launch handsets running Windows Phone sometime in the next year. He didn’t say much about these devices though. Nokia has established as a strong player in India with its Windows Phone handsets. Microsoft has already acquired Nokia pending regulator approvals, if the deal went through then Nokia will give tough competition to the likes of Micromax and others. Nokia has a strong following in India and in other developing countries.
