Rumors about the launch of Microsoft Office for iOS and Android devices are nothing new and continue to surface. First there is a leaked image of Office for iPad and then Android, but it is not clear when the launch will happen and Microsoft is tight lipped about the same.
Now The Verge id reporting that MS Office versions for Android and iOS will be released in the early next year, citing several sources close to Microsoft. Microsoft Office for mobile devices dubbed as Office Mobile will debut in the next year as free apps for Android and iOS and they will allow users to view Office documents on their mobile devices. Office Mobile will also have tied-in Office 365 subscriptions, using that users can edit office documents on their mobiles.
Subscription details are not yet known, but users will be able to purchase them or businesses can distribute the licenses to their employees. According to Verge the versions will allow basic editing and they are not as powerful as their desktop counterparts. When they contacted Microsoft spokesperson said “Office will work across Windows Phone, iOS and Android.”
If you are keen on working with Office documents on mobile and don’t want to wait till Microsoft’s Office Nobile is out, then, there are some apps already available on app store and Google Play store that work with MS Office documents.
