Skype is one of the most popular instant messaging and video chatting app. The Android version of Skype has been around for some time now and works well on some Android devices. However, other devices can’t get it to work properly due to bugs and compatibility issues including video chatting not compatible on some Android devices. A lot of users have switched to Viber and Whatsapp for Android because Skype has never been good enough for the Android OS. However there is some hope for Skype on Android as developers at XDA have released a modded and updated version of Skype with various new features and improvements.
Firstly, there is an exit button which kills the process and the app as there were problems previously with closing Skype due to Android’s weird multitasking. You can also toggle between the phones speaker or bluetooth audio using the menu. Also, there is support for Led flash while video chatting and this can be activated in the menu. The mod also brings some minor fixes in video calls and chats.
There is also an option to pick and select an availability and every time you log in, your availability will be set. The mod also has an option to keep the screen on throughout rather than using proximity sensors. Aside from that, the app lets you force enable video calling on devices which cannot get it enabled. Video calling will work on all phones, even the phones which cannot get it enabled, however, you should have an ARMV7 CPU. Other CPUs are not compatible with the video chat function.
The new mod also features camera auto rotation and advanced camera settings with effects. There is also a ringtone/notifications tone picker and you can also choose vibration patterns.
The modded apk file is available here and should work on ALL Android devices. You can install the apk file like any other app.
