Google announced that the next version of Android version will be called KitKat. Sundar Pichai announced it on his Google+ as well as on Android, the announcement surprised many. Earlier everyone though that the next version of Android will be called Key Lime Pie, surprising everyone Google announced KitKat. KitKat in the name of the candy snack bar we all know and love, the KitKat name is controlled by Nestle.
Google has also erected a giant statue along with other statues of the Android version name candy’s. Google always named different versions of Android after desserts and KitKat naming will keep that tradition. Pichai wrote in his Google+ profile that Android reached 1 billion activations mark.

The next version of Android KitKat version number of Android 4.4 and not version 5. That means it will be an incremental upgrade to the Jelly Bean and not a major upgrade.
Google called this release Key Lime Pie until recently but last November they decided to opt for KitKat as they realised that very few people actually know the taste of KLP. Internally it was known as KLP only, according to a BBC story. KitKat is apparently a favorite snack of the Android coders. According to the BBC story Nestle will produce 50 million Kitkat bar featuring Android mascot.
