Nokia is working on an Android device and we are seeing leaks related to the device from quite sometime. Nokia has not confirmed the existence of the device so far. A new set of photos appeared showing the UI of the Nokia’s Android smartphone codenamed “Normandy”, the photos are leaked by @evleaks.
The photos show the forked version of Android UI and heavily customized version. Nokia is customizing the Android OS to fit its needs, like Amazon has done with its kindle line. Nokia is developing the device for its low-end smartphones to replace Asha line of devices with these Android ones. But whether Nokia is continuing the development of the device is not clear, earlier reports indicated that Nokia is not actively working on it.
The leaked photos show, a phone app, a notification center and Skype app, the User Interface on these three apps is something like crossover between its Asha and Windows Phone UI. Since Nokia is using a forked version of Android, it won’t get official support from Google in terms of apps like Gmail, Play and others. It is not yet clear whether this device will ever come out to the public, as Microsoft is expected to close Nokia deal in few months, the chance of getting this device out are bleak. Probably we will know more on the device when the Microsoft Nokia deal completes. q
