Nokia Refocus app launched last month at the NokiaWorld. Nokia has finally made the app available to all PureView Lumia devices. The app allows users to capture photos using variable depth of filed and then can focus and refocus the photo. The resulting photo can be refocused and shows the image based on the focus area you select. Here you can see a photo taken with Refocus app.
Refocus app is a very clever way of taking photos, it uses the Scalado’s Imaging technology, Nokia acquired Scalado in 2012. The Refocus app is designed for scenes with great contrast and depth of the field. You have to go close to the object you want to to focus, like the macro photography way of getting as close as possible to the object. Nokia has demonstrated this last month at the launch event. Capturing photo will only takes few seconds, the result will be stored in 2-8 images depending on the subject according to Nokia.
There is also another element that can be added to these photos. Color Pop which is also used in other Nokia camera apps can be selected with the dropper icon on right of the viewfinder. Tap on the screen where you want the effect, the color on the focus area will remain where it is but the rest of the picture turned to black and white, adjusting the contrast slightly.
The resultant Refocus photos will be uploaded to SkyDrive first and then a unique page for that photo will be created at refocus.nokia.com. This page can be shared with your friends via email or through social networks.
Nokis Refocus is available for download for all PureView Lumias, the list includes Lunia 920, Lumia 925, Lumia 928 and Lumia 1020, all these phones whould be running Amber update. The Refocus app will also come with the upcoming Lumia 1520.
