Google is reportedly working on an Android gaming console, a smart watch and a version of Nexus Q according to WSJ. Citing sources familiar with Google plans the report says Google seeks to spread the Android software beyond smartphones and tablets. With these devices “Google is hoping to combat similar devices that Apple may release in the future, according to the people.”
The report goes on to say that one of these products is expected this fall. Google is closely watching recently launched Ouya Game console according to the report. Google’s hardware ambitions are growing recently, it is aiming to counter Apple’s dominance in the consumer electronics market.
Sony has recently launched a smart watch, and Google is also in the works to launch a smart watch powered by Android that will be paired to users smartphone via Bluetooth. Samsung is also expected to launch a new smart watch some time later.
The report also claims that the next version of Android that is in the works will work with low end devices also, the recent versions are suited to the high end devices, So Google is tweaking it so that it can be loaded on to some low end devices as well.
Google is also developing the next version of the Nexus Q device that Google launched last year. The plan to sell this to consumers were postponed indefinitely on the criticism that it is expensive at $299. Google is now working on the next version at a cheaper price. Nexus Q is media-streaming device, it will integrate with the Google Play and allow people to buy music from Play store.
Google and other companies are motivated to develop these kind of devices with an eye on Apple. Apple is also rumored to be working on a gaming console that might come with the Apple TV later and also on a smart watch.
