Samsung is reportedly launching Galaxy Gear smart watch on September 4th at an event in Berlin, two days ahead of the IFA show. The news is not new, there were reports earlier about the launch of smart watch from Samsung. This time the report came from Bloomberg, according to its sources Samsung is all set to launch the Galaxy Gear smart watch on September 4th along with the much awaited Note III phablet from Samsung.
According to the report, the wristwatch like device will be able to make calls, surf the web and handle e-mails. It will run on Android operating system and will go on sale this year. It is going to compete with several similar offerings from rivals like Sony, which introduced a 2nd gen Smart watch recently. There are other smart watch products in the market like Pebble Watch and I,’m Watch etc.
“It will carve a niche for sure as this is an initial product in the market,” said Chung Chang Won, an analyst at Nomura Holdings Inc. in Seoul. “Wearable devices could be one of the trends in the smartphone market, but I’m not sure yet whether watches or glasses will set the trend.”
But the biggest challenger to Samsung plans to rule the wearable computing devices market is its chief rival Apple, which is expected to release a smart watch, called iWatch later this year. None of the products that are available in the market now has created a market for smart watches. We have to wait and see what this Samsung’s Galaxy Gear will do to the market.
