Facebook released Home to the Google Play store the other day, it is meant to work with certain devices only at the launch. Facebook has also updated its other apps, Facebook Messenger got the Chat Heads feature of the Facebook Home. At the launch Facebook Home only supports HTC One X, One X+, Samsung Galaxy S III and Samsung Galaxy Note II and support for HTC One and Galaxy S4 is on the way.
The supported device list is just tiny fraction of the Android ecosystem. There are users who are interested in trying the Facebook Home app but they don’t own one of these devices, for all those users XDA developers has posted Facebook Home apk that can be installed with out even rooting the device.
Installation: If your device came with pre-installed Facebook app, you may need root access to remove it, otherwise you are good to go.
First remove Facebook apps and then install apps in the below order.
First install Facebook app then the modified APK downloaded from XDA (link below), and finally Facebook Messenger.
Enable Facebook Home under Facebook app settings and reboot.
Download Facebook Home, Download Facebook Messenger with Chat heads fix
The app is not a brilliant one at the moment and the only useful feature is the Chat Heads and that is already pushed to the Facebook Messenger app. With in the short time it was in the app store, it received an average rating of 2.3, with 46% of the reviewers giving it 1 star. That show the initial problems or issues and usefulness of the app.
