Samsung is working on Tizen OS along with Intel for quite some time. Rumor is that Samsung is developing it as an alternative to Android, at some point Samsung might ditch Android for Tizen. Earlier there were reports that Tizen is delayed and also rumors of Samsung ditching it, but a set of new pictures reveal Tizen in action on Samsung Galaxy S4.
Tizen has reached version 2.0 and version 3.0 is expected in 2014. Samsung may not have plans for Tizen devices in the near future but the work is going on, the latest pics from Tizen Indonesia show that Tizen 3.0 is running on Galaxy S4 with some interface changes. The interface looks something like a cross between Windows Phone and Android.
Samsung is expected to release a device this year, it is supposed to be released by now but delayed and is now expected by the end of the year. Samsung may not be too eager to push Tizen yet, as its Galaxy line of devices are doing very well with Android, so it may not risk to disturb that in the near future. But Samsung might work on Tizen to position it as an alternative to Android and Windows Phone if the need arises. Tizen is not restricted to mobile devices, if it released it will find its place in all Samsung consumer electronics.
