Samsung might launch a Google Glass competitor in September according to a report on Korea Times. The device is named “Galaxy Glass” as everyone’s guess, the device will launch at the IFA trade show in Berlin according to the report citing unnamed Samsung executives. Samsung earlier launched Galaxy Gear wearable smartwatch and now the report says Samsung will release smart glasses, welcome to the Samsung wearable tech.
Competition in the smart glasses market is going to be hot this year according to a Samsung executive, ““The reason is simple. The market potential for smart glass is huge. It will be used in trucks, cars and has a greater impact on related industries such as glass- and coatings-makers.”
Samsung has set the goal of launching the product at IGA Berlin and it might be called “Galaxy Glass”, the report doesn’t give much information about the product though. Samsung has reportedly filed for a patent at Korean patent office. Samsung Electronics is collaborating with the Samsung Display in launching this product.
Wearable tech will get a lot of boost this year with the release of devices like smart glasses and smart watches among others. But as of now the wearable tech is not mainstream and will take some time for consumers to adopt these devices and also for the companies to generate profits on these devices.
