Samsung is expected to launch new Galaxy Gear device at the Mobile World Congress, MWC 2014 next week according to reports. Samsung has launched the original Galaxy Gear smartwatch last September, it was a big disappointment. It didn’t appeal to many and the battery life and not so great interface and the size all contributed to its failure.
Samsung this year is expected to launch an improved version of the Galaxy Gear. A report from USA Today claims that Samsung will launch the new Galaxy Gear with Tizen OS installed citing anonymous sources familiar with Samsung’s plans. Samsung has invested in Tizen and is expected to push Tizen devices in the near future. Samsung Tizen phone has been postponed several times last year.
The report claims that Samsung will have Tizen Galaxy Gear and not Android Galaxy Gear this time, but it is hard to believe because Samsung might not want to remove Android from Galaxy Gear at this point of time. Also what about the compatibility with the Galaxy devices. It is possible that Samsung is releasing a Tizen version of the Galaxy Gear device and it will co-exist with the Android version of the Galaxy Gear. MWC is not far, next week we will know Samsung’s plans for the smartwatch.
