Samsung has sent invites for its September 4th event at Berlin just ahead of the IFA 2013. Samsung is expected to unveil Galaxy Note III at the event according to rumors and the event invitation, but it is not going to be only Galaxy note 3 unveiling according to rumors. Samsung might also unveil its smartwatch offering under Galaxy Gear name tag.
This is just a speculation at the moment and nothing is concrete. A Dutch site Galaxy Club is reporting that Samsung has filed a trademark application with USPTO under the name “Samsung Galaxy Gear”, this application is different than the previous one Samsung applied according to the site. The previous one doesn’t have the Galaxy word, but the new one has, which might indicate that the smartwatch is powered by Android operating system. Samsung’s Galaxy line of devices are all powered by Android OS.
The device is named Galaxy Gear with product code SM-V700 according to the site and it speculates that the device might be launched at the IFA Berlin event along with the Galaxy Note 3 device. It is also possible that Samsung is working on the device and it has nothing to show at the Sep 4th event and might unveil at a later date.
Smatwatches are latest trend in wearable computing, all major companies are unveiling or working on smartwatches including Apple, Google, Microsoft, and others, while Sony has already released a smartwatch.
