Samsung is updating its last year flagship models to latest Android version that is KitKat. Last month Samsung has updated the Galaxy Note 3 to Android 4.4.2 KitKat and now it started an update for Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500). The KitKat update for Gakaxy S4 is coming just before the expected official announcement of the Galaxy S5.
The update is available via Samsung Kies and also through OTA, for updating your device through OTA check, settings > more > about phone . software update. The update is currently rolled out in phases so it may take sometime for you to get the update. If your phone is ties to a carrier it might take some time for the update to reach you.
The latest update Android 4.4.2 brings minor UI changes and performance changes, with the update Galaxy S4 receives performance improvements that is evident in the benchmark scores. THe UI changes include a KitKat style status bar icons in place of the multi-color Samsung icons. With the update Samsung has added the Camera shortcut to the lock screen, it also shows album clip art on the screen when playing music. The Android 4.4.2 update brings core features like wireless printing, new emojis support, you can specify to use the Hangouts or messaging app for SMS/ MMS, and there is an option for setting the default launcher.
