One of the Indian online marketplace Snapdeal has launched a multi-lingual mobile website to tap the consumers who are not comfortable with English. Snapdeal multi-lingual platform will be available in 11 languages by 26th January. On Tuesday it launched Hindi and Telugu versions of the mobile site, this platform is limited to the mobile website Snaplite which is launched few days back. Eventually its desktop and mobile apps will also gets updated to support regional languages.
Snapdeal is expecting to reach nearly 130 million smartphone users who prefer regional languages. Snapdeal has earlier launched a desktop version in Tamil and Hindi but it was rolled out sometime later. The new regional language sites it is planning to launch include Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Assamese and Punjabi. The Hindi and Telugu versions are already live and you will be greeted to use in Hindi, English and Telugu if you open m.snapdeal.com. The rest of the versions will be live by January 26th and Snapdeal will add more regional languages sometime later. Based on the customer feedback Snapdeal will decide if it wants to offer its desktop site and mobile apps in regional languages or not.
Snapdeal’s mobile site is the lite version of its website which is designed to load quicker on slow connections and where connectivity is spotty. It was introduced sometime back to cater to those who either doesn’t want to install their app or on slow connections. The mobile website is 85% lighter and consumers less bandwidth and loads in 1/4th of the time compared to other mobile websites according to Snapdeal.
