Sony announced PlayStation 4 at an event in New York with social features and more. The gaming console will make a debut in this year, perhaps by the end of the year before the holiday season. Pricing of the console is also not announced, that is for another day I guess. Sony also announced Dualshock 4, wireless game controller that delivers new gameplay experience according to Sony.
DUALSHOCK 4 adopts the Dualshock3 controllers you already know along with new controllers, to share and connect with others. The share button on the controller will allow you to stream your game play to your friends and they can watch or join your game play or send drop ins like health portions to you. Using the share button you can instantly upload images and videos from your gameplay to Facebook or other supported sites. It also has a touchpad at the front as a new input method, it also has a built-in speaker and headset jack for the sound effects.
Few titles for the PS4 are already announced with more to come, the partial lineup includes, Killzone: Shadow Fall from Guerilla Games, inFamous Second Son from Sucker Punch, Driveclub from Evolution Studios, and Knack from Japan Studio, Destiny from Bungie, Diablo III from Blizzard Entertainment, Deep Down from Capcom, and Watch_Dogs from Ubisoft. When more game titles are available users can check and play immediately portion of the actual game.
PlayStation 4 allows you to access your games quicker than ever before, PS4’s “suspend mode” allows you to return to the saved game where you left off instantly with a press of the power button. PS4 also allows you to download games in the background while you are playing, this is not the case with PS3. This downloading is handled by a second processor that handles the background activities. System updating is also done in the background and the new console is able to update the system even when the console powered off.
PlayStation 4 games will also be available through PS Vita, Sony says it’s their long-term vision to make most of the PS4 games playable on PS Vita. Previous PS3 games are not yet supported on the new console, Sony says support will come later and you will be able to play PS3 games on PS4 at some point of time.
PlayStation App for iPhone, iPad and Android will also be released that acts as a second screen allowing you to watch your friends play remotely or watch maps during an adventure game.
