Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi unveiled a low-end Android smartphone in China. Dubbed as Hongmi which means Red Rice in Chinese is priced aggressively at 799 yuan ($130). Xiaomi manufacturers smartphones and is also developer of the popular MIUI Android firmware.
Xiaomi Hongmi is feature rich and offers better specifications at a lower price point than its competitors, for just $130 you are getting good hardware compared to some high end phones. It features a 4.7-inch IPS screen with 720p HD resolution, it also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection. It is powered by the 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6589T processor with 1GB of RAM. It runs on Android 4.2 skinned with Xiaomi’s MIUI v5.
Other specifications include 8MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front snapper. It comes with 4GB of internal storage which is the only let down but it supports micro SD card for memory expansion. It packs a 2000mAh battery under the hood.
It will be available starting August 12th in China and the pre-orders for the first batch of phones have already started.
