Xolo is gearing up to launch a new smartphone with Windows Phone operating system. Till now Xolo only concentrated on Android and now they are looking at the Windows Phone. Other Indian mobile vendors like Micromax and Karbonn are also focused on Android and Xolo is the first one to look at the Windows Phone among these Indian brands.
Xolo Co-founder and Director, Vikas Sehgal told to ET that Xolo is working on Windows Phones and tablets based on Windows Phone 8.1. He added that they are likely to launch first Windows Phones and tablets by early next year, which we doubt as Windows Phone 8.1 is not expected until second quarter. So we might see Xolo Windows Phone 8 phones and tablets or Xolo will launch at the time of Windows Phone 8.1 launch.
“We are likely to launch the first XOLO Windows Phone by early next quarter, which will make us the first Indian smartphone maker to launch Windows Phone in India,” Sehgal said.
On the pricing front Xolo’s Windows Phones will be comparable to their Android phones. Xolo Windows Phone based smartphones will be in the price range of $150-$300.
“There is certainly an ecosystem cost attached to the Windows OS, which is higher. But it’s an early stage scenario, as time goes by, we believe that it will also get neutralised,” he further added.
