Firefox OS is getting steam slowly, it faces stiff competition from the likes of Android, iOS and other mobile operating systems, but Mozilla is hoping that carriers and OEMs will embrace its platform for its openness. Firefox OS phones till now are confined to Spain and Latin American Markets only till now, they haven’t announced any plans for the Indian market.
ZTE and eBay teamed up to bring the ZTE Open smartphone to the Indian market. ZTE Open went for sale in Spain this June and later in Latin American countries, it was first announced at MWC this year. ZTE Open is an entry level smartphone and is targeted at the first time smartphone owner.
ZTE Open features a 3.5-inch TFT screen with HVGS resolution (480 x 320 pixels). It is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor.
Firefox OS is previously known as Boot to Gecko, it is based on Linux and Mozilla’s Gecko technology. It is a open source mobile operating system with out any ones control over it. It allows developers to build apps for Firefox OS using web app technologies HTML5, CSS and JavaScript. LG recently launched its first smartphone LG Fireweb with Firefox OS, Sony is also expected to launch Firefox OS based smartphones.
